Atlanta is another urban hotbed for jazz music, and this Memorial Day Weekend from May 28th-May 30th, Piedmont Park will be bustling with a diverse pool of jazz performers offering up their talents to the citizens of Atlanta. In 1977 Mayor Jackson had a desire to transform Atlanta into the center of jazz music as far as the South was concerned, and through his determination, tenacity, and a shared vision with some of the great local politicians and community organizers of Atlanta, put on the first year of the Atlanta Jazz Festival. 34 years later, and with secure funding, and loyal participants, the 2011 Atlanta Jazz Festival will be more nuanced and dynamic than ever, featuring acts like Warren Wolf, Gerald Clayton, and Regina Carter and many others.
